Gerald is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is the oldest of eight siblings, and was involved in a variety of sports growing up. He first moved to Idaho in the summer of 2002 to attend BYU-Idaho. It was in Idaho that he met his lovely wife, and in 2006 he graduated from BYU¬ Idaho with a Bachelor’s in Spanish and Health Education. From 2007¬-2015 he taught advanced Spanish at North Shore Senior High School in Houston, Texas. In 2012 he received a Master’s in Administrative Education from Lamar University and served as a part¬-time administrator.
When he’s not working, he loves to hang out with his wife, Megan (who’s from ID) and their 4 niños, watching/playing sports, exercising, reading, or working on the “honey¬ do” list. He is glad to be back again in the Gem State, serving at Gem Prep: Pocatello.
Born and raised in Los Angelas, California, Eddie moved to Pocatello about 13 years ago to attend Idaho State University. His most recent professional experience has been in project management with an emphasis in troubleshooting a wide range of programs and systems. His passion is problem-solving and finding creative solutions to challenges.
While attending ISU, Eddie met his wife Sara, an Idaho native, and decided this is where he’d like to stay. They have two sons, both enrolled in Gem Prep, and he can often be seen on campus volunteering or just hanging out on the playground tossing the football around with our students. In his spare time, he coaches youth soccer and enjoys outdoor adventures, sports, and especially playing basketball.
He believes strongly in community involvement and helping others, and is “excited to make a difference for Gem families and to contribute to the success of our students.”
Diana was raised in Rexburg, Idaho, and graduated from Madison High School. She attended Idaho State University and graduated in 1998. Later, She met her spouse Jerry while country dancing up at Ricks College. They both loved volleyball and played in several tournaments together. Shortly, they were married in 1998. They have 3 children; Brayden, who will be in the 8th grade; Brailee, who will be in the 5th Grade; and Brielle who is going to be in the 2nd grade. They love to go to Island Park to her grandma’s cabin to play disc golf, camp, and hang out with family. In her spare time, Diana loves to, of course, play volleyball, play the flute, and hang out with friends and family. She also works one night a week at Randy’s Tumbling where her kids participate in tumbling classes. “I am very excited to get to know all the kids better this year and all the new ones.”
Teresa was born in Eglin AFB, Florida and was raised in New Mexico. She lived in Texas for 28 years, and raised three children. Teresa graduated from Texas Tech University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Multidisciplinary Studies, including both elementary education and special education. She has taught various grade levels in the past eight years, including Kindergarten at Gem Prep for the past two years.
Teresa is married and she has lived in Idaho for three years now. She and her husband love the beautiful outdoors here where they enjoy mountain biking, road biking, cross-country skiing, running, backpacking, traveling, and climbing mountains.
Teresa is looking forward to another fun year teaching kindergarten!
Ashley is originally from Salt Lake, but grew up in Pocatello. She attended Idaho State University where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education in 2010. She then taught in Vernal, Utah for a year before heading back to Idaho. From 2011 until 2015 she has worked for the Pocatello School District. She recently earned a Master’s degree in Literacy in the May of 2016 from Idaho State University. There is no challenge Ashley is afraid to face. She loves to meet with new students and parents. Not only is she excited to work with a wonderful Gem Prep community, but is equally enthusiastic to be a part of innovative and transformative educational experiences at Gem Prep: Pocatello!
Originally from California’s Bay Area, Stacey, her husband James, and two daughters moved to Pocatello.
Before moving to Idaho, Stacy worked as a teacher substitute and then full-time teacher. She then earned her Master’s degree in literacy from Idaho State University. While working towards her degree, she spent any available off- time as an America Reads Coordinator, and was able to read to children in many of Pocatello’s public schools.
Recently, Stacy has been full-time teaching in Pocatello, and is now excited to join the Gem Prep team this fall. Her positive spirit and energy will have a great impact on the Gem Prep community.
Mariela grew up in Challis, Idaho. She met her husband in high school and they were married shortly thereafter.
Mariela is graduating from Idaho State University on May 6, 2017, with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Special Education. She will additionally be pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education Administration.
Mariela enjoys spending time with her husband and dog, Taz. She is excited to begin her first year of teaching at Gem Prep: Pocatello and to get to know new colleagues, parents, and students.
Mallory England is originally from New Plymouth, Idaho. She came to Pocatello to pursue her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education. She graduated in 2010. She met her husband Tim in 2007 and they were married in 2008. She has 3 children who are the loves of her life! She worked at Blackfoot Heritage Sixth Grade for the past 4 years teaching sixth grade. Mallory enjoys spending time with her family, crocheting, and cooking. She is excited to be teaching fourth grade at Gem Prep! GO JAGUARS!!
Tasha Rodriguez has lived in Pocatello her whole life, and graduated from Highland High School. She and her husband Robert (high school sweethearts) have been together for 27 years and married for 18 years in July. They have two biological children, a girl and a boy, and three brothers they are currently in the process of adopting. She was a cosmetologist for 20 years and had a salon in her home for most of that time. She obtained her elementary degree in Arizona, and the last two years, however, she has been a preschool teacher at Grace Lutheran School.

Born and raised in southeast Idaho, Carly Baker-Kalco continued her education at Idaho State University where she earned a double teaching certificate in elementary and special education. While in school, Carly challenged herself and participated in a large array of teaching experiences with students spanning many grades and with varying degrees of ability. She is excited to become the newest member of the Gem Prep team, and is already thinking about all the possibilities and opportunities teaching at Gem will bring.
As far as academics go, Carly loves math and presenting it in different ways to help students really grasp the concepts. She also loves teaching (and performing in) color guard. She enjoys swimming and lots of other outdoor activities. When the weather is not so accommodating, yoga and dance are among her favorite things to do to stay active. When she needs some quiet relaxation time, she enjoys a good book and crocheting. Carly can’t wait to meet Gem’s parents and students, and looks forward to working with us in the years to come.
While enjoying her first year of college, Carly met the man who would later become her husband. They tied the knot in June 2015 and began to grow their family a little over a year later by welcoming a sweet baby boy.
Nancy grew up and lived most of her life in Chicago’s western suburbs. Her parents, brother and sister still live in or near her hometown. Nancy graduated from the University of Illinois in 1981 with an Elementary Education degree. Nancy has worked many years in the Naperville school district, with her work primarily focused on Title 1 reading/math and technology lead/support. Nancy has 3 daughters: Meagan, an attorney in Los Angeles; Lauren, who just finished her first year of medical school at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland; and Krista, who just finished her first year at the University of California-Santa Barbara, where she is a psychology/statistics major. Nancy moved to Idaho to join her husband, Roger, who is the site manager for Monsanto’s Soda Springs operations. In her spare time, Nancy likes to go to the gym, play tennis, walk her dog, and travel to see family and friends.
Born and raised in Texas, Marie is the seventh of ten siblings. Although proud to be a Texan, only one sibling remains in Texas and the rest are all spread out from Washington to Maryland, down to Mexico. Growing up, Marie was involved in sports, and spend most of her summers outside around the water, taking a trip each summer to Lake Powell, (Arizona/Utah) to spend a time boating with family. Before graduating from BYU with a Bachelor’s in Health Promotion in 2000, Marie was able to do some traveling, spending a few months in Israel, Egypt, and Jordan.
Marie loves to spend time with her family. She and her husband Marc (from Colorado) have enjoyed living in Utah, Texas, and Idaho. Their six children are active in various activities that keep her out of trouble. A few of her favorite things include spending time with family, reading a good book, baking, playing and or watching sports, swimming/boating, working in the yard and traveling. Marie is looking forward to a great year working with the students at Gem Prep: Pocatello.
Cassia was born and raised here in Pocatello. She is married with two beautiful kids. Cassia majored in deaf studies and ASL at Idaho State University. She enjoys reading and “attempting” Pinterest crafts in her spare time. Cassia is excited to be joining the Gem team of educators, parents and students this coming fall. Go Jaguars!
She is a transplant from California and has been enjoying Pocatello with her husband and two beautiful daughters for the past two years. Heather received her AA degree from Phoenix College and is really excited to meet all our new families and students this coming fall. Let’s keep learning together!
Lisa Darrow was born and raised in Sandy, Utah. She is the 3rd of 8 children and spent her youth playing the piano and violin, camping, playing soccer and reading. She graduated from Dixie College (AS Early Childhood Education) and Utah State University (BS Education-Exercise Science). After graduation she focused her attention on raising 4 delightful children who are currently ages 6-14 and taking care of her amazing husband, Patrick. Lisa has taught piano lessons for the last 10 years, worked in Cub Scouts and other youth programs, and has volunteered many hours in the classroom. She enjoys activities that range from reading to road biking to crocheting and many others. Her family enjoys working together, attending concerts, camping and vacationing, and recently added attending marching band competitions as a new favorite activity! Lisa is excited to be working in education again and hopes to be able to help GPP students reach their full potential!!
Christina is currently majoring in behavioral science at Ashford University with a goal of working as a special education teacher. Christina is a native Pocatellan, born and raised. She met her husband at Century High School where they both attended. Together they have three beautiful boys. Outside of the classroom, Christina loves to spend her time with family; going swimming, camping, and spending the day in the mountains exploring. Christina enjoys working with Gem students and parents, and believes working in education helps her make a difference every day.
